Lisa - Real Skin Stories

Lisa had never really struggled with her skin. Then, at 45, perimenopause began and her skin suddenly started to change.

Hormonal breakouts became a new concern, and the impact went far beyond her skin. Lisa found herself constantly thinking about her appearance, avoiding turning her camera on during meetings and even covering up at home in case she had to answer the door.

After trying everything from high-end skincare and scrubs to facial wipes and oils, Lisa discovered 47 Skin. Just five weeks into her new routine, she had already noticed a significant difference in her skin and, importantly, how she felt about herself.

Now, Lisa says her skin feels calmer and cared for, and she no longer feels the need to hide away.

Looking back on your journey, were there any places or situations you used to feel anxious about because of your skin?

Before perimenopause, I had never really struggled with skin issues, so when I suddenly started developing breakouts and blemishes in my mid-40s, it came as a real shock. It had a big impact on my confidence and how I felt about myself. I became so self-conscious that I avoided turning my camera on during online meetings at work, often saying my laptop camera was broken. Even at home, I would make sure to wear something that covered my skin, just in case I had to answer the door. It reached a point where I felt genuinely anxious and quite low about my appearance. It really affected how comfortable I felt in my own skin.

Is there one particular memory that's stayed with you from when your skin was at its worst?

Yes, there is one moment that has really stayed with me. I went to my doctor to ask for advice about my perimenopause symptoms and the problems I was having with my skin. Instead of offering support, they simply told me that I needed to stop picking at my skin or it would scar. I left the appointment feeling embarrassed and ashamed. At that time, I was picking at my skin as a way of trying to regain some control over what was happening to my face. It felt like the only thing I could do. But hearing that response made me feel judged rather than helped, and it really stayed with me.

How did you first hear about 47 Skin, and what made you decide to give it a try?

I saw an ad on Facebook. I would get lots of different skincare ads because of my internet searches, but when I watched the video Nic had created about his skin and how it affected him, it really resonated with me. He explained how the product was developed after his Grandma gave him a cream to try. I had never tried anything with Silver or Chitoderm®, so I thought, why not?

I now use the BHA Exfoliant once a week, the Silver Mask twice a week, and the Everyday Cleanser both morning and night, followed by the Serum (my favorite product). Before this, I would use oils, strong astringents, and products that really didn't do anything other than make my skin worse. I'm just five weeks into my journey with 47 Skin, and the difference is phenomenal.

What's life like for you now that your skin has improved?

Life feels completely different now that my skin has improved. I no longer feel the urge to pick at it, and my skin finally feels treated, calm, and nourished. People around me have noticed the change, which has been such a confidence boost. I feel like myself again, comfortable in my own skin and no longer hiding away. I'm genuinely so grateful, and I've been telling everyone about 47 Skin because it's made such a positive difference to my confidence, my appearance, and how I feel day to day.

What would you say to someone who's struggling with their skin right now?

I'd say, please don't lose hope. I know how hard it can feel when your skin affects your confidence and mood, but things can get better. Be kind to yourself and try not to blame yourself for what's happening; it's not your fault. There will be something that works for you, even if it takes a bit of time to find it. Take care of your skin, but also take care of your well-being. You deserve to feel good about yourself. And remember, you're not alone in this.

When did your skin journey begin, and what was that time in your life like?

At 45! Perimenopause kicked in. I felt like I was losing control of my appearance, confidence, and ability to function normally!

What were your main skin concerns?

Hormonal breakouts, my constant picking, scarring, and how my skin looked to those around me.

What did you try before discovering 47 Skin, and how did it make you feel?

I tried lots of high-end skincare products, scrubs, astringents, basic soap and water, facial wipes, and I even dermaplaned my own face. My goodness, I was so desperate.

Physically, what did a bad skin day feel like for you?

Like I couldn't face the world, couldn't face meetings at work. I just wanted to stay covered up in bed.

How often did you think about your skin, and how did it affect your mental health?

I would say 75% of my waking hours I would be thinking about my skin, constantly touching it and looking at it on my phone and in the bathroom at work.

Tell us about the products in your current routine and how they fit into your day.

I use the Everyday Cleanser both morning and night. I love the texture and smell of the product. I follow with the Serum (two pumps twice a day). The Serum is my favorite product. It feels so cooling and soothing, with no leftover residue.

I use the Silver Mask twice a week. I love peeling it off! And I use the BHA Exfoliant on Friday evenings. Each morning, my skin just looks better than the previous day! Even when the occasional breakout appears, it seems to just go away!
