Article: What is a serum, and do I really need one?
Serums. So, you’ve heard of them, you’ve seen them, and your best friend has one but if you’re being completely honest, you’re not entirely sure on them. I mean, you understand that cleansers cleanse, moisturisers moisturise, toners tone…but what exactly are serums? What do they do? And more importantly, do you really need one?
Skincare should never stress you out (that would pretty much defeat it’s benefits) so we’ve pulled together the facts for you to clear up any confusion. Treat the below like a serum bible and pass on the knowledge, it’s about time everyone knew what these miracle workers can do.
You need to think of serums as the MVP’s of the skincare world. They have a gel-like consistency and contain a high concentration of performance ingredients – and in our case, our core ingredient Silver Chitosan aka ‘Formula 47’. You apply them directly after cleansing with the purpose of delivering a supercharged shot of incredible ingredients right into your skin.
Serums have a lipid-soluble base which allows the active ingredients to penetrate into the epidermis instead of lying on the surface. What this means (in regular English) is that because they are lighter and thinner than moisturisers, they can quickly soak right into the skin and work on a deeper level.
This makes them great for targeting specific concerns such as clearing blemishes, fading brown spots and scars, firming the skin and encouraging a youthful complexion – the list goes on and on. If it’s results that you’re after, then you don’t want to miss out this step in your skincare routine. Goodbye, acne. See you later, signs of aging.
With serums, it’s not really about the age you are but more about the condition of your skin. If you have a particular issue that you want sorted or you want to maintain a high level of skin health, then a serum is 100% for you. We recommend using our serums twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. This allows for the best results, leaving skin rejuvenated, firm and hydrated.
Of course you can use both a serum and a moisturiser – the world is your oyster. There are no set rules with skincare regimes, and you’ve got to find one that suits your skin. Our serums have a much more powerful and potent ingredient list than most moisturisers however, which often provides levels of hydration that means our customers don’t feel the need to use a moisturiser alongside one. Sometimes too many chefs spoil the broth, right?
A skincare routine void of serums is a huge missed opportunity for skin improvement. If you want to really see a difference in your complexion, then yes – you really do need one. Take a quick look below to see which from our range is best for you and why not give it a try? The results will speak for themselves.
